Description
Description
Small-batch handmade sterling silver necklace inspired by the manta ray, crafted in 925 silver and made in China, featuring a sculptural manta form that moves between strength and quiet grace in open water.
▾Behind the Product
The manta ray moves through the ocean with an effortless calm, wide and steady rather than fast or forceful. It does not rush or resist the current, but glides with quiet confidence, trusting the water to carry it forward. This piece takes the manta ray as its form, capturing that sense of grounded movement and silent strength.
For Calm & Protection, the manta becomes a symbol of steady presence. It reminds you to slow down, open your posture, and move with the rhythm of the sea rather than against it. Worn close to the body, it acts as a quiet companion - protective, calm, and composed.
▾Materials & Size
Manta pendant: sterling silver (925), approx 1.18 in (3 cm) long * 0.91 in (2.3 cm) wide * 0.18 in (4.5 mm) thick (max), weight approx 0.13 oz (3.6 g).
Chain: sterling silver (925), approx 17.7 in (45 cm) + 2 in (5 cm) extension chain, adjustable, weight approx 0.41 oz (11.6 g).
Optional tag: hand-shaped sterling silver (925), shape and size may vary, weight approx 0.07 oz (2 g).
▾Craft Process & Handmade Character
Craft Process: The manta ray form is hand-shaped in sterling silver, then refined through careful filing and polishing to preserve its flowing silhouette. Optional round tags and engraved nameplates are also made by hand, with inscriptions carved manually rather than laser engraved. Each element is finished individually before being assembled on an adjustable sterling silver chain.
Handmade Character: Each necklace is handmade in small batches. The manta pendant, optional round tag, and engraved nameplate may vary slightly in shape, thickness, and surface details. Hand-carved elements will not appear perfectly uniform, and these subtle differences are intentional marks of handwork that make each piece unique.
▾Craft Artist & Origin
Deep Sea Studio
Deep Sea Studio is a small independent handmade studio shaped by life lived close to the ocean. The creator spent several years in Palau, where diving was not a pastime but part of daily existence, and the sea was a constant presence rather than a distant escape.
The studio's work is deeply influenced by experiences underwater and by reflections on freedom, confinement, and the quiet emotional weight carried by marine life. Stories like that of Tilikum the orca left a lasting mark, shaping a sensitivity toward how humans relate to the natural world.
Through hand-crafted silver jewelry inspired by diving equipment and ocean forms, Deep Sea Studio explores the idea that many of us live with invisible boundaries, while still longing for open water, movement, and release. Each piece is made slowly, as a personal meditation on freedom, memory, and the hope of encountering the ocean on its own terms.

Why We Started FolkMake
We are a young Chinese couple, Cecilia Chen and Oliver Sun. FolkMake exists to bring real handmade work in China to a wider world — pieces that feel honest, well made, and worth living with for a long time.
Our original intention was simple: to create a clear bridge, through us, for more people to understand these niche yet masterful crafts — what they are, how they’re made, and who stands behind them. For every piece, we explain materials and origin in plain, specific language, and we protect the maker’s original intention — so what you receive is not just an object, but the craft and meaning it was created to carry. We also organize our collections by intention, so it’s easier to find a piece that fits what you want to keep or gift — calm and protection, luck and new beginnings, love and connection, strength and confidence, abundance and gratitude, or healing and comfort.

Each piece carries a clear intention — calm and protection, luck and new beginnings, love and connection, strength and confidence, abundance and gratitude, or healing and comfort — so you can choose the meaning you want to keep or gift.
We lean into craft that rewards a closer look — hand-built forms, careful finishing, and details made by time, not shortcuts. Every piece is judged by precision, balance, and how it feels in real use, so the craftsmanship is something you can actually notice.
Everything on FolkMake is handmade in China — small-batch, never mass-produced. That means each piece may carry subtle natural variations, a quiet proof it was made by real hands.
